Hyperbaric Vacuum‐Based Artificial Muscles for High‐Performance Actuation

چکیده
Existing pneumatic artificial muscles generally rely on the use of either positive or negative pressure for actuation with each having their own advantages and disadvantages. Herein, a hyperbaric vacuum-based muscle (Hyper-VAM) making both pressures almost interchangeably is described. This done by placing actuator inside chamber which enables large deformations possible using pressure, forces through action high differential, exceeding those only pressure. can lift heavy payloads (up to 80 kg) its entire contraction range, (89.1% active length) power (maximum 101.3 W), while relatively low pressures, be supplied portable pump. By exchanging air between two chambers in closed-loop actuation, this also driven single pump without environment position controlled regulator.

Introducing Pleated Pneumatic Artificial Muscles for the Actuation of Legged Robots : a One-dimensional Setup
This paper reports on the use of a new actuator, called Pleated Pneumatic Artificial Muscle, in a one dimensional set-up, it is build as a footless leg with only the knee powered by a pair of Pleated Pneumatic Artificial Muscles. The main goal of this study is the evaluation of the adaptable passive behaviour of these Artificial Muscles in a leg, which can be exploited for an energy efficient w...

Interest in the field of human-centered robotics continues to grow, particularly in utilizing pneumatic artificial muscles (PAMs) for close human–robot collaborations. Addressing the limited control performance of PAMs, we proposed a hybrid actuation scheme that combines PAMs (macro) and a low-inertia DC motor (mini). While the scheme has shown significantly improved control performance and rob...
متن کاملArtificial Muscles for Humanoid Robots
It is important to recall that humanoid robot technology derives from the technology of industrial robots. It is obvious that the developments of bipedal robots such as the integration of robot-upper limbs to complex anthropomorphic structures have benefited from progress in mechanical structures, sensors and actuators used in industrial robot-arms. A direct link is sometimes made between the t...
متن کاملLinear artificial molecular muscles.
Two switchable, palindromically constituted bistable [3]rotaxanes have been designed and synthesized with a pair of mechanically mobile rings encircling a single dumbbell. These designs are reminiscent of a "molecular muscle" for the purposes of amplifying and harnessing molecular mechanical motions. The location of the two cyclobis(paraquat-p-phenylene) (CBPQT(4+)) rings can be controlled to b...
متن کاملFuel-powered artificial muscles.
Artificial muscles and electric motors found in autonomous robots and prosthetic limbs are typically battery-powered, which severely restricts the duration of their performance and can necessitate long inactivity during battery recharge. To help solve these problems, we demonstrated two types of artificial muscles that convert the chemical energy of high-energy-density fuels to mechanical energ...
